Campaign Overview

To kick off the new school year with warmth and gratitude, Gloria Dei Lutheran Preschool hosted a Starbucks-themed Teacher Appreciation event for staff. I led the concept, planning, and communications for this experience, which combined thoughtful hospitality with a playful, shareable moment for social media.

Context & Objectives

Each August, preschool teachers return to the building to prepare for the upcoming school year. We wanted to create a memorable experience that made them feel genuinely appreciated and energized for the year ahead.

Role:

  • Event Planner
  • Communications Lead
  • Creative Director

Audience:

Preschool staff (20 teachers and Director/Assistant Director)

Goals:

  • Welcome and celebrate the preschool teachers
  • Foster a sense of community and excitement before the school year
  • Create a photo-worthy, shareable moment for social media engagement

Execution

  • Concepted and planned the entire event from start to finish
  • Ordered all supplies to make gifts and created gifts
  • Coordinated with the pastor for the barista role
  • Organized timing with the preschool director and assistant director
  • Styled the space with Starbucks cups and signage to create a café atmosphere
  • Captured candid photos during the event to highlight joy and appreciation
  • Posted a highlight on Facebook to share the experience with the wider community

Results & Impact

The event was very well received by teachers and leadership. Many commented on how appreciated and uplifted they felt heading into the new school year.

Social Media Engagement:

  • Facebook post received 44 reactions (“loves” and “likes”) and 1 comment
  • Reached parents and congregants beyond the immediate preschool audience
  • Strengthened Gloria Dei’s online presence by showcasing authentic community moments

Reflection & Takeaways

This project reinforced the power of simple, well-executed ideas. With minimal time and budget restraints and no graphic design assets, the Starbucks theme created a high-impact experience that resonated both in person and online.

If I were to build on this in future years, I’d incorporate a custom graphic or branded photo backdrop to further extend the social media reach — but the organic joy of this moment was exactly what we hoped to capture.
